Dragoș Toacă – Inclined Plan
Starting intuitively in a way suggested by the context, the free space in front of the agri-food market, with its center marked by an object, can gradually be seen as having the character of a public square, of an urban gathering space, not merely of a passage. The entire empty space is filled with a large table, leaving a perimeter passage leading to and from the food market. A large table, a white wooden disc, stands on structural metal legs and is divided into folding plates, which, once raised, form passings. The circular shape denies the irregular and fragmented edges and orders the space around it, the object being seen as a point of active interaction given by the context of the food market: people can eat, drink, gather during market shopping or pass through the area. The inclusive value of the table is given by the possibility to gather everyone at a table, large enough not to become intrusive, but unitary enough to facilitate communication.
