Dragoș Toacă – Diploma Project
In Romania lately, there has been a growing revival in
traditions and rurality, so much so that numerous
heritage sites of the rural area have been transformed
into a network of summer schools meant to
reconnect the city to the rich rural teachings of
sustainable living. The Petre P. Carp villa is a
valuable example of such a reintroduction of a
historical monument into the social consciousness.
The villa hosts workshops coordinated by
guest-specialists from France, in crafts such as
pottery, carpentry, blacksmithing and weaving. Upon
further analysis of the site, it became clear that this
process is hindered by the lack of proper facilities.
The proposal directly addresses these
problems by creating a clear, free structure in which
the thickness of the column is reduced with height -
by reducing it, a beginning and an end of its form is
created. Between the freedom of the structure, the
spaces can be organised and reorganised ad
infinitum, turning into indoor to outdoor spaces with
versatility, whether as event halls, workshop spaces,
storages for the garden or rooms for temporary
accommodation.
